Maud Gonne Fishing
Artists Description

Sitting in a pub in Hammersmith, West London, I watched a tree blowing in the wind and thought of Maud Gonne, WB Yeats’ longtime unrequited love ( It was a time when girls with lantern jaws were all the rage). The subsequent poem, ‘Maud Gonne Fishing’, was written as part of an assignment for Michael Donaghy’s Monday night poetry class and appeared in the first pages of Is Shane MacGowan Still Alive under the pseudonym Robert Gainsborough.
